Secondary school admissions information
Parents of all year six pupils:
Children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 will start secondary school from September 2026. Parents need to apply for a Year 7 place by 31 October 2026.
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) must also apply by 31 October 2026.
You are strongly advised to apply to four local schools including your nearest or catchment area school. You can use our Catchment Area School Finder Tool to check which school are your nearest or catchment area schools.

To apply for a secondary school place you will need to complete and submit an online application form using the link below.
If you want to apply for a place at one of the selective grammar schools in Telford and Wrekin, Haberdashers' Adams or Newport Girls High School, you will need to register for the entrance test by 26 June 2026 as well as listing the school on your online application. The test will be held on 14 September 2026.
To apply for a place at Thomas Telford School, you will need to apply to the school directly by 21 September 2026. You should not list this school on your online application.
Applicants to Madeley Academy will be invited to attend a non-verbal reasoning assessment in November 2026.
If you are applying to Holy Trinity Academy or any other faith schools you may also need to complete a 'supplementary information form'. These will be available on the school's website and should be returned to the school(s) directly as well as listing the school(s) on your online application form.

1 March 2027 – Secondary National Offer Day
You will be sent an email by the School Admissions Team informing you of the outcome of your
application.
31 March 2027
Deadline for appeals to be lodged for community/voluntary aided schools.
April to June 2027
Appeals heard by independent appeals panel.
6 and 7 July 2027
Year 6 children will visit their new schools.

Applying to a Selective
Grammar School
There are two selective
grammar schools within
Telford and Wrekin:
Haberdashers’ Adams
which admits boys and girls
in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10,
and boys only in Year 11.
In addition, the school also
admits girls in the sixth form
(Years 12 and 13).
Newport Girls High School
which admits girls only from
years 7 to 13.
To apply for a place at
Haberdashers’ Adams or
Newport Girls High School
for Year 7 in September 2027 you will have needed to
register for the entrance test
by 26 June 2026. The test
will be held on 14 September
2026.
Applying to Thomas
Telford School
Thomas Telford School is
a city technology college,
and the rules of admission
differ from local authority
maintained schools and
academies.
1. You must apply directly to
the school. Application forms

contacting the school directly
to request an application
form.
You cannot list Thomas
Telford School on your online
application form.
2. Application forms are
available from 1 September
2026.
3. The deadline for application
is 4pm 21 September 2026.
Applications received after
this date will not be accepted.
4. Assessments will take
place in October 2026.
If you require time off school to attend an entrance examination this will be counted as an authorised absence following the below guidance from Working together to improve school attendance (applies from 19 August 2024) (publishing.service.gov.uk)
Leave of absence for the purpose of attending an interview for employment or for admission to another educational institution
Schools maintained by a local authority and special schools not maintained by a local authority can grant leave of absence, under regulation 11(4), where an application has been made in advance by the parent who the pupil normally lives with (or the pupil if they will be over compulsory school age by the time of the absence) and the leave is to enable the pupil to attend an interview for employment or admission to another educational institution.

This interview must take place during the session for which it is recorded for example if the entrance examination is in the morning session (before 1:15pm) then only the morning session will be authorised, if the child is not present for the afternoon session registration at 1:15pm then this will be recorded as unauthorised absence.
