At Wrockwardine Wood Church of England Junior School we value reading skills massively. We believe that reading skills are a cornerstone, not only of education, but of everyday life. Whether it is reading the terms and conditions on a form, a letter from a friend, the news on a website, or a book for university,  a day does not go by where we do not read something.

Reading is the first lesson that your child will be taught every day between 9:00 and 9:30 in a lesson called Love to read. Children will access a range of books across a spectrum of subjects, from classics up to more contemporary literature.

However, 30 minutes a day in school is not enough to develop reading skills up to the level that we would expect from our children, so we do require them to read at home every night and for this to be documented in their reading record by you or another responsible adult.
