Year 4 Parents

Please forgive me for giving you misinformation before; your children WILL be doing PE tomorrow so can come in their PE kits (dark shorts or bottoms, plain white t-shirts and a school sweatshirt of cardigan).

Please share this message to all the parents in year 4.

Reading Ages

At WWJS, our aim is to ignite the passion for reading. Reading is a vital skill that will support children’s learning across the whole curriculum. As a school, we will ensure that our children are taught to read with fluency, accuracy and understanding. Above all, we want children in our school to become enthusiastic, independent and reflective readers. Essentially, we want children to enjoy reading.

In order for our children to fulfil their potential in reading we need as much parental support as possible and we hope to work together in order to ensure that all children succeed.

Average reading ages in each year group:

Approx. reading age Our average reading age
Year 3 7-8 7.7
Year 4 8-9 8.4
Year 5 9-10 8.4
Year 6 10-11 9.9

Today, you will receive a letter with your child’s reading age on. Children were tested on their understanding of words in different contexts. Thank you for all your support with reading, we have attached a help sheet on the other side of the letter that might come in handy at home.

Thank you for your ongoing support at home!

We hope you have a fabulous Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Parents in 4M

As you are probably aware, Mrs Morris is off work at the moment. She is currently in pain and not able to walk or drive. As a school, we are trying to ensure the children in her class have as little disruption as possible but unfortunately we will need to postpone the parents’ evening appointments on Tuesday afternoon as we are not expecting that Mrs Morris will be back by then. We wanted to give you as much notice as possible and we will rearrange a chance for you to meet with your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

If your child was looking forward to visiting the Book Bus with you and finishing early, then please feel free to come and have a look at their books with them and treat them to an early finish for the afternoon.

Any questions, please feel free to phone me.

Julie

What a great tea party and coffee afternoon!

Thank you to everyone who turned up for the Year 3’s tea party, contributed to bringing cakes and helped eating them too. We managed to raise an amazing £330.38. It was a huge success and we couldn’t have managed it without your wonderful support.

Have a fabulous week and thanks again for your amazing efforts!!
